Writing a project scoping note checklist

The scoping report is a contractual document that defines and states a company’s expectations and requirements for ERP software in an explicit manner.

Its writing is a crucial step in the project. The most important thing is to be precise and complete, explaining as much as possible and detailing the roles of each actor in the different business processes and the management rules.

Five elements to take into account when writing the scoping note:

1 – Present the global scope of the solution

2 – Clearly describe the business processes and classify them in order of importance

3 – Define the needs and expectations of the departments

4 – Quote the constraints that the software package must meet (interfacing with the rest of the company’s information system, internal requirements, and security standards).

5 – Decide on project management with the integrator to organize and ensure the smooth running of the project and achieve the objectives set at the outset.
